At MG Metals, we are a multi-metal stockholder with a large supply of aluminium available to purchase; this includes a vast range of aluminium angles. Our inventory consists of over 50 aluminium angle sizes, suitable for a range of different jobs and sectors.

Equal angles are available in profile lengths from 3/8” up to 6”, as well as 20 – 50mm, with a variety of thicknesses. Unequal angles are also available in a range of size combinations.

We can cut aluminium angles bespoke to size, providing a range of custom processing services under one roof. All our stocked aluminium can be cut, drilled, finished and delivered in a short space of time, keeping lead times to a minimum.

    Aluminium Angles

    WHAT IS AN ALUMINIUM ANGLE?

An aluminium angle is a piece of extruded aluminium that has the shape of an “L”. It is commonly used in construction and fabrication projects as a structural element to provide support and stability.

The two sides of the angle are usually at a 90-degree angle to each other, and the thickness of the material can vary depending on the intended application.

Aluminium angles can be cut to size, drilled, and welded or bolted together to create complex structures. They are lightweight, durable, and resistant to corrosion, which makes them ideal for a range of outdoor and structural applications.

    TYPES OF ALUMINIUM ANGLE

Aluminium angles are available in “equal” and “unequal” variations; at MG Metals we stock a vast variety of each.

    Equal Aluminium Angles

Equal aluminium angles are a type of aluminium angle where both sides of the “L” shape are of equal length.

At MG Metals, our range of equal aluminium angles includes imperial equal angles measuring from ¾” on each side to 6” on each side, and metric equal angles measuring from 20 – 50mm on each side. These are available in a range of thicknesses.

    Unequal Aluminium Angles

Unequal aluminium angles have one side that is longer than the other though the angle remains at 90 degrees. These can be useful when one leg of the angle needs to be longer or shorter than the other to meet specific design requirements.

PROPERTIES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF ALUMINIUM ANGLES

Aluminium angles have several properties and characteristics that make them a popular choice in many applications. Here are some of the most important properties and characteristics of aluminium angles:

    Recyclable

Aluminium is a highly recyclable material, which makes aluminium angles an eco-friendly choice for sustainable construction and manufacturing.

    Corrosion Resistant

Aluminium is naturally corrosion-resistant, which means the angles can withstand exposure to moisture, air, and other environmental factors without rusting or corroding.

    MG Metals Logo bullet point

    Strong

Aluminium has a high strength-to-weight ratio, which means it is strong enough to support a variety of different loads.

    Non-Magnetic

Aluminium is non-magnetic, which makes aluminium angles suitable for use in applications where magnetic interference is a concern.

    USES FOR ALUMINIUM ANGLES

Aluminium angles are used in a variety of applications in construction, manufacturing and other industries. It is particularly useful in sectors where keeping weight down is important. Here are some of the most common uses of aluminium angles:

    Framing & Bracing

Aluminium angles are used as structural elements in framing and construction projects to provide support and stability. They are commonly used as braces to reinforce structures and prevent them from collapsing or shifting in engineering projects. They can be used for a range of industries from the military to aerospace.

    Transport

Due to the comparably low weight and high tensile strength of aluminium angles, they are frequently used for transport components such as train carriages and automotive parts.

    Edging

Aluminium angles are used as edging for stairs, flooring and other exposed edges to protect the surfaces from damage.

    Decorative

Aluminium angles can be used for decorative purposes, such as in architecture and interior design, to add visual interest to a space.

    Machine Guards

Aluminium angles are used as machine guards to protect workers from moving parts and equipment.

    Shelving

Aluminium angles are often used as supports for shelving units in commercial (and residential) applications.

    ALUMINIUM ANGLES FAQs

What’s the difference between an equal and unequal aluminium angle?

In an equal aluminium angle, both legs of the angle have the same length. On the other hand, in an unequal aluminium angle, the length of the two legs is different. The longer leg in an unequal angle is usually used as the load-bearing side, while the shorter leg is used for attachment or fixing.

Why use aluminium angles instead of stainless-steel angles?

Aluminium is less dense than steel, which means that it is lighter in weight. Although it is not as strong as steel, aluminium is still a strong and durable material that can be used in a wide range of applications where weight is a concern. For example: aerospace, automotive, and marine industries.
